Tolle Lege (Take Up and Read!)

“Tolle lege” is what Augustine heard the children sing in their game as he sat in the garden. He took it as a sign from the Lord and he took up and read the copy of the Scriptures which he had with him. It was in that moment that Augustine came to saving faith in Jesus Christ. Just as he was invited providentially by the Lord to take up and read the Scriptures so this podcast exists to invite you to take up and read books in the Great Tradition of Western Civilization.

This podcast is dedicated to discussing “Great Books” in the hope of inviting more people into the “great conversation” that has been going on for thousands of years. Joel Ellis and Jacob Allee will discuss (and sometimes debate) about the merit of various books, and their ideas, hailing from Ancient, Medieval, and Modern times. From Homer and Plato, to Dante and Milton, to Jane Austen and Dostoevsky, to C. S. Lewis and Chesterton, and so many more, this podcast will discuss great literature and the great ideas that have shaped civilization. No matter where you are at in your literary journey, this is the podcast for you.
